Four little lambs were hopping and playing in a meadow full of daisies and violets. As every morning, they had come to the meadow with their mothers before the sun rose. They had wandered off a bit and gotten lost in their game.
The little lambs didn't notice how time was passing. Near noon, it was time for the flock to return home. But the lambs weren't tired of playing hide-and-seek. When one lamb closed its eyes and started counting, the others quickly ran to a spot and hid.
One of the lambs was named Snowflake. Being small and agile, she was very skilled at hiding. That day, too, she hid behind a distant bush. She was sure her friends wouldn't be able to find her. And so it happened. The game ended, the flock set off, but Snowflake didn't come out from her hiding place. No one noticed her absence.
As the sky began to darken, Snowflake became worried. She came out from her hiding place and ran, hoping to catch up with the flock, but no other lambs were visible around. The flock had already gone far. The little lamb got scared and didn't know where to go. She ran this way and that. From afar, the howling of wolves could also be heard. Snowflake understood that staying out in the field at night was dangerous.
Just then, two lights appeared on the road leading to the village. Snowflake thought it was a car and ran towards the road. The approaching lights belonged to Uncle Ton-Ton's tractor, a kind resident of the village. The lamb, in her joy, ran in front of the tractor and bleated:
— Baa! Help me!
Uncle Ton-Ton immediately recognized Snowflake. Although he was surprised to see her alone in the field at this hour, he didn't waste time, helped the lamb onto the tractor, and drove towards the village, to the farm. Snowflake's fear slowly faded away.
A little later, Uncle Ton-Ton delivered her to the farm. Snowflake was reunited with her family. Her mother had searched for her little one a lot. At first, she was a little angry with her, but then couldn't resist and hugged her lamb tightly. Snowflake also promised never to stray from her mother and the flock again.
That night, Snowflake slept soundly in her warm bed. She understood that when playing, one should not wander away from the adults, and when the flock returns home, everyone must go together.
